The 3 Keys To Rewiring Your Brain
The 3 Keys To Rewiring Your Brain
A common myth prevalent for years says that we use 10%, or only a fraction, of our brains. Several movies and books have shown the protagonist achieving exceptional power and success by ‘unlocking’ more percentage of their brain. While there’s no substance in the 10% myth (we’re using all of it), it is true that your brain can help you achieve all that you want. It’s Science!
The best thing about our brain is that it can be ‘rewired’. Just like you modify a car’s engine to get more torque, you can customise your brain to achieve more. This is possible due to Neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is our brain’s natural ability to reorganize itself depending on the surroundings, experiences, thinking and emotions. The brain can create new neural pathways and even grow new neurons to suit the environment we are in. Think of a guitarist at a rock concert. His fingers move effortlessly on the guitar because the brain has created neural pathways based on the guitarist’s years and years of practice.
So basically, if you can alter what you think, feel and do, you can rewire your brain.
The 3 keys to rewiring your brain
- Visualization (Think)
- Gratitude (Feel)
- Meditation (Do)
- Visualization – Put yourself there
It is vital to regularly visualize what you want to be or the thing you want to achieve. When you power a vision with confidence and clarity, your brain makes you work for it. Many athletes use the power of visualization. They imagine themselves breaking the world record and the crowd cheering them. When their mind focuses solely on winning, the apprehensions of personal limitations have no way of trapping them.
Visualization needs practice. Begin with just five to ten minutes a day. But to achieve results, fix a goal and believe that you can achieve it – clarity and confidence. Figure out your calling, passion, talent, the ‘end goal’.
- Gratitude – Be thankful
The brain has a ‘negativity bias’. It remembers pain and sadness for a longer time than appreciation and joy. To change this, you need to appreciate the little things. The weather, the food, your family, friends, the compliment on your dress/hairstyle. When we express and receive gratitude, dopamine and serotonin get released, the chemicals responsible for making us feel good, or happy. Sustaining this feeling will rewire your brain and free it from negativity. Write down the things you are grateful for at the start or at the end of the day.
- Meditation – Learn to breathe
We meditate to calm the mind. This sure isn’t as easy to do as it sounds, but when meditation becomes a way of life, the mind learns to be calm without much effort. Meditation rewires your brain to be in control of your feelings and emotions. And that is definitely great power!
Neuroplasticity actually puts us in control of our brain if we practice these keys and make them a way of life. So rewire your brain to achieve happiness and success. The possibilities are endless!
